The terrain at Memorial Park, Mirfield was built by Kirklees Council in the summer of 2014 at a cost of £22,000.
However, the playing surface was very poor with large stones present on the surface. Three months of discussion between Harry and Anne Overend and Kirklees Council and local Councillors was successful in the terrain having a finer surface applied.
The Mirfield Petanque Club was formed in September 2014 in affiliation with Mirfield Cricket Club. Forty Six members joined the club and it has been running successfully ever since.
